The Man in the Hat - Rather Good Films and Open Palm Films

27th February, 2019

Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Warbeck is set to hit the big screen with his directorial debut ‘The Man in the Hat’. Starring Ciaran Hinds, Stephen Dillane and Maïwenn.

An astonishing feat of contemporary film-making, The Man in the Hat is a beautifully fashioned odyssey of music, story-telling and silent comedy traversing the breath-taking landscapes of France.

Pursued by five angry men, a man in a hat (Ciarán Hinds) journeys through France in a Fiat 500 accompanied by a framed photograph of an unknown woman. Who is he? Why are they chasing him? And how can he shake them off?

Travelling North on his escape across the mountains, gorges and bridges of France, he comes face to face with the vivid eccentricities of an old country on an old continent, whilst trying to evade the pursuers who are always, relentlessly, on his tail.

OnSight provided full post production for this feature and enjoyed working alongside the Producer Daniel-Konrad Cooper whose recent credits include Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk,’ alongside theatre-turned-film producer Dominic Dromgoole of Open Palm Films and with Peter Boyle as the offline editor.

Known for his stunning work in Billy Elliot, Quills and of course taking home the 1999 Oscar for his score for Shakespeare in Love, Warbeck is finally taking the leap into directing. Joining him on this UK-France project is co-director John Paul Davidson, who also wrote the script with Warbeck.

Premiere: Screening in London, Kensington at Ciné Lumière from September 18th 2020
