Visions and Avid: A winning combination at the 2010 Ryder Cup

17th October, 2010

ONSIGHT's Edit Rental team helped design and deliver a winning Avid installation for OB company Visions at the 38th Ryder Cup.

The 2010 Ryder Cup was staged in Wales for the first time last week with the USA as the defending Cup holder. The competition was held at the newly-constructed Twenty Ten course at Celtic Manor, specifically designed for the event.

Heavy rain caused several delayed starts but did not dampen the spirits of Team Europe, with captain Colin Montgomary leading them to victory with a final score of 14½ to 13½.

Visions supplied OB Facilities for NBC, with HD Hire supplying an Avid Symphony and two Avid Media Composers on Visions' "Voyager" edit truck.

The Avids used Unity MediaNetwork shared storage and Avid Interplay asset management. These systems were also integrated with EVS using Avid Interplay Transfer and EVS XFile so that clips could be sent to the Avids for editing, and completed packages could be sent back to EVS for transmission.

Using the file transfer systems is a great workflow enhancement because it allows footage to be moved between the two systems much faster than real time. It also takes the load away from the editing systems so that editors can get on with editing while the transfer of clips is handled in the background.

Producers were able to view clips on an EVS IP Director and then send them to the Avid storage, where they become available for editing without any capture or import process, which can be a great time saver.
