The expedition: Rowing solo 18,000 miles around the world in the most hostile marine environment.

This amazing documentary from Pendragon Production’s George Olver, is the story of adventurer Olly Hicks, who this year became the first man to row solo from Tasmania to New Zealand.

Hicks, 27, already holds the record for the first man to row solo from New York to the UK in 2007, when he received a rapturous welcome, on his arrival in Falmouth.

The trip, supported by Google and Virgin, was recorded in high definition using bullet cameras, with footage uploaded to YouTube. George Olver also acted as expedition manager and was involved in directing a subsequent rescue mission.

Battling against hostile seas that threatened to capsize his craft, plus a near miss with 30 killer whales, Hicks found the strength to row on and complete the first solo crossing of the Tasman Sea. Later on, the drama continued and the documentary shows him eventually being rescued from the Southern Ocean.

The film includes two mid-ocean phone calls – one a wrong number from a man in Pakistan trying to reach his family in London and a conference call from the international space station (ISS) about the challenges of exploration in a confined space.

On Sight have supported the film with the HD Lab providing both online and Dolby 5.1 audio services and HD Hire supplying an HDCAM SR vtr for the London premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square on Thursday 19th November.
